Permanent residency

Transitioning from a temporary work or family visa to a permanent settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) usually comes with stricter language requirements.

Securing a B1 certificate is a mandatory and crucial milestone for your file at the local immigration office.

Career advancement

Many employers and vocational training programs (Ausbildung) want to see that you can confidently handle daily workplace situations.

This level shows you can communicate coherently, participate in professional conversations, and easily describe your experiences and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about your path to the B1 certificate.

What score is required to pass the telc B1 exam?
To successfully pass, you must achieve at least 135 points in the written examination and a minimum of 45 points in the oral examination (representing 60% in each respective section).
Can I retake individual sections if I only fail one part?
Yes. Unlike lower-level tests, the telc B1 exam allows for partial retakes. If you pass only one part (e.g., the oral section) but fail the other, you can retake the failed module individually until the end of the following calendar year.
Are the written and oral B1 modules held on the same day?
In most cases, yes. Both exam sections are conveniently scheduled on the same day at our Frankfurt center. If an exception occurs, a maximum timeframe of 7 days is legally permitted between the written and oral parts.
How long does it take to receive the official B1 results?
The evaluation is handled centrally by the telc headquarters and typically takes about 4 to 6 weeks. As soon as your official printed certificate arrives at our testing center, we will notify you immediately via email.
What is the expected word count for the writing section?
For the written task, you are given a 30-minute time limit to compose an email or a formal letter. Your text should contain approximately 120 words and cover the specified situational prompts.
Does the official telc B1 certificate expire?
No, your official telc B1 certificate remains valid indefinitely. It serves as permanent, lifelong proof of your language proficiency for employers, universities, and German immigration authorities.
